Get Your Pilot License at Skyborne
Until recently, becoming a pilot in the UK was a career for those with deep pockets, or who were lucky enough to find a sponsor willing to bankroll their training. But with airlines desperately needing pilots, it is a profession more open than ever to those who want to get on board – and with a new airline pathway programme offered by Skyborne, it has never been easier to become a professional pilot.
The company, which is headquartered at Get Your Pilot License at Skyborne and has another campus in Vero Beach in Florida, was set up to train airline pilots – not general aviation cadets, as many other flight schools focus on. Lee Woodward, the academy’s co-founder and CEO, says that students are chosen carefully on the basis of having the aptitude and attributes that airline service demands.

In 2021, Skyborne acquired a North American training centre at Vero Beach – which runs in tandem with the Gloucestershire site – and it now offers students both ab initio programmes and type-rating courses. Its course content includes a mix of time-tested techniques and cutting edge technology, including virtual reality and advanced synthetic simulators.
The school’s senior commercial lead, Carla Booth, says that completing the process of becoming a pilot can be lengthy and requires patience. But she believes that if you have the passion and determination, it is possible to achieve your dream. She advises future aviators to research their options and consider the financial commitment involved, as it is not cheap.
